NATASHA SHERLING enlists the help of beauty editor Sarah Halliwell to tackle this season’s jewellery and beauty trends in one go …
The spring summer catwalks were awash with big earrings – hoops, chandeliers, sparkles, smooth metal – the main take away was, the more of a statement they make, the better. But with all this attention drawn towards our faces, you better believe we need our beauty game to be on point as well. Here, three of my favourite runway trends – and, thanks to The Gloss Beauty Editor Sarah Halliwell – the best beauty to match.
Prabal Gurung’s collection was, on the whole, very sporty – neon tones and athletic-inspired fabrics. For me though, it was the oversized, yet superfine, hoop earrings that stole the show. Some were punctuated with pearls, some looped over the tops of ears, but they were still delicate and elegant, and ultimately very wearable. The models’ skin was exceptional – dewy and fresh and glowing; I’ve been well informed by Sarah H that the way to achieve this is with Charlotte Tilbury’s Glowgasm, (€75 at Arnotts) – the pearl pigments and deep lustre of the shades take all-over glow to the next level! Pair that with hoops from a great selection at Loulerie (including an incredible ruffle detail pair by Mignonne Gavigan) and you’ll be set.
I can’t say enough about Simone Rocha’s jewellery; I am so glad she has made it such a strong feature of her last few shows! It might be daunting to consider what to pair with a sparkly chandelier earring and tiara combination – but her grown up glitter eye seems perfect, especially when the rest of the face is left bare.
Lots of brands have embraced glitter as a super way to reflect light back on to our faces; Lime Crime’s Diamond Dew Glitter Eyeshadows (€21.50 at Arnotts) in Chocolate Diamond, offers instant disco glamour, and Urban Decay’s new highly reflective Heavy Metal Glitter Gels (€16.50) in six shades are too much fun to keep just for festivals. As for the jewellery – head to Havana or FarFetch, both of whom still have a super selection of Rocha’s earrings in stock.
Ever the revolutionary, Ralph Lauren showed his spring summer collection the day before it went on sale – who needs to wait for feedback after celebrating 50 successful years in business? The 70s vibe running throughout meant glitter dresses and white pantsuits – but all of course designed with his own brand of New York polish. It meant magical swinging earrings (chandeliers and hoops), all in shining yellow gold – with brilliant bronzed cheekbones for great summer-on-a-yacht vibes. Chanel’s Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint (€60, at counters nationwide) will give the glow you’re after; it’s an unusual formula that converts everyone who tries it – it moisturises and gives a glow all in one! Meanwhile River Island is the go-to for the ideal OTT gold statement earrings to pair with your crisp summer whites.
