I always forget that there is a Zeba hair salon at Arnotts. It’s tucked away at the back, past the shoe section, but once you get there you realise it’s a spacious salon with great stylists. Having a blow-dry with Sarah on Saturday, I also discovered that from Tuesday to Friday, a walk-in blow-dry costs just €20. The salon is closed only three days a year – so if you only have time on a Sunday (from 11am) for a lengthy colouring session, this is great news (though colour is half-price on Mondays so that’s the most popular day to go). Sarah has loads of great tips on haircare – for example, since I’m growing my colour out and letting the white through, she recommended using a clarifying shampoo. “Purple shampoos can be a bit harsh on the hair, especially grey hair – but a clarifying shampoo will keep your colour fresh. Also consider having a sheer semi tint – you won’t see it, but it will keep hair smoother and give it shine, which you tend to lose with grey or white hair.” A tip: ask her about ear piercing, too – she has a great local tip for affordable cartilage piercing …
