The Gold, Silver and Bronze Options to Keep Summer Glowing

The sunny days might fade, but your glow doesn’t have to. You need to know about this body oil – it’s one of the best things we’ve used this year …

Whether or not you’re getting away this summer, you can still have summer holiday skin. Putting on body moisturiser can be annoyingly time-consuming unless you find the right product. Since talking to Rebecca Bennett, Aveeno’s skincare advisor, I’m taking her advice to start moisturising from the shower onwards. I’m choosing shower creams rather than foams, going gently with body scrubs, and trying to remember to apply body oils and lotions onto damp skin, to seal in the moisture better.

Here are three medallists when it comes to getting the glow:

BRONZE

I’ve tried out a lot of bronzers this summer, including Vieve’s co-called Modern Bronzer – honestly, though, there is nothing particularly modern about it, really, since it’s made mainly from talc like so many others. I don’t find the finish anything to write home about either. Available online at Cult Beauty, €35.75. I’m more excited about Glossier’s first bronzer, as they tend to get things right. I haven’t tried it yet, but it reads well – Solar Paint is a “gel-crème formula” in four tones that are “true to sun”. Liquid bronzers tend to be great for illuminating the skin, so I’m excited to try this out. Since talc can work against a glowing look – it absorbs oil so isn’t great for drier skin and can also irritate some skin types – I think it’s worth trying other types of bronzer if you prefer a more radiant, glowy finish. €19 at www.glossier.com.

SILVER

We do not want flaky dry legs at this point, but we don’t have time to keep reapplying cream all the time. Aveeno Daily Moisturising Yogurt Body Cream ticks a lot of boxes. It’s not overly fragranced – you’ll get a hint of apricot and honey, or else choose the subtle vanilla and oat one. It’s well priced – you don’t often get 300ml of something good for just over a tenner – and somehow the combination of colloidal (super-fine) oats and yogurt concentrate makes you feel like you started the day pretty heathily, even if you’re tucking into Coco Pops rather than porridge for breakfast. And you will find the moisturising effects long-lasting, especially if you use it regularly. Your bone-dry elbows will thank you. At pharmacies and stockists nationwide; www.aveeno.ie.

GOLD

With limitless cash, I’d buy a LOT of Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady hair and body oil – it’s divine. And expensive. But this year I’ve found some competition in the luxury stakes for less. It’s Sunday Riley Fairy Godmother Shimmering Oil Gel. I am a big Sunday Riley fan and really enjoy her products, from Pink Drink essence – a spray-on drink for your skin with firming peptides – to the moisturisers and cleansers (the almondy Ice moisturiser is divine) and facial oils (plus there are some neat skincare kits on www.brownthomas.com at the moment, with a bunch of travel-sized favourites). But this dry body oil is a stunner. It smells like those chewy sweets called Fruit Salads that we got as kids, deliciously creamy and sweet. It makes your skin gorgeously glowy – just enough, though, not too disco ball. I love the way you see the hint of a sparkle the next day, like traces of moondust on your skin reminding you of a beautiful night. It’s a sensational product – makes an indulgent gift too. €48 at Brown Thomas and Arnotts.
