It seems that the matte lip craze is finally on the way out. I never got onboard with it as I think matte lips look dehydrated. For neutral tones, I find that Bobbi Brown have the best range of nude lip colours on the market, with shades that will suit every skin tone. And Bobbi Brown’s liquid lipsticks are my absolute favourite at the moment: the texture is second to none and they last ages on the lips without drying them out.
A brand new arrival at the Bobbi Brown counter this month is a collaboration with Ulla Johnson, a New York based fashion designer known for her wonderfully simple colour palette and luxury fabrics. This collection for Bobbi Brown is beautiful, in soft pink packaging that has a beautiful matte texture to it. There are only five products in the collection: my favourite is the Ynez Cheek Palette (€35) which houses a Pot Rouge (Bobbi Brown’s iconic cream blush), a highlighter and a mini face oil, which I love to use as a highlighter on top of foundation: just pat it into your cheekbones and you’ll have the dewiest skin.
The Minou Eye Palette (€40) features a collection of matte, sparkle and metallic eyeshadows, including the most perfect pink which will look amazing on 90 per cent of Irish skin tones (I love this colour blended right up to the browbone). There are two lip products in the collection: Bare Pink Sparkle is a sheer lip balm with the faintest hint of colour. Apply it on top of a lipstick to enhance its colour and give a soft sheen.
The Loulou Crushed Lip Colour has the look of lipstick with the healing properties of a balm, perfect for lips that need extra care. The bright red orange shade, The Loulou (€27), is one of my favourite lip colours and I tend to buy it every time I see it; I counted how many I had last week while prepping for a work trip to LA and I have 35 in total!
