I worked as a hairdresser in a salon about 300 years ago and still style hair for shoots. I get to work with some of the best hairdressers in the business and am constantly learning from them. What to look for when searching for the perfect blow-dry? A salon that uses good products; a good shampoo and conditioner is the first step to great hair. Hairdressers use products that will make your hair look and feel better, not just because they like the smell of them.

My first port of call is Blow, which first opened back in 2002. Opening at 6.30am every morning in four Dublin locations (Leeson Street, Richmond Street, The Intercontinental Hotel and, since just last year, in Dunnes Stores Henry Street, which opens at 8.30am), Blow salons are the perfect pre-meeting hair spot, and you’ll always get an appointment; they’re open on Sundays too. They do the most amazing curly blow-dry which lasts for days. Blow-drys from €20;

MOYO hairdressing in Dublin 2 is an Aveda concept salon that adheres to the Aveda philosophy of beauty, with a nod to a more natural approach to ingredients in haircare; they use all organic products, even their hair colours. Lead stylist Kevin is a master of his craft but you will have to book in advance to get an appointment with him. Blow-drys from €40;

If you’re in Galway or heading over for the races, your first call should be Sarah Mason Professional: you are sure to get the best blow-dry in the West here. Book now if you want an appointment for race week as it is the busiest time of the year in the beauty business in Galway. I have seen Sarah at work and she is a true pro; she has won numerous international hair competitions and regularly features as a judge in hair competitions both here and abroad. She uses Sassoon products to ensure the best finish for your hair. Blow-drys from €22;

Alan Keville recently moved to a beautiful location at the top of Powerscourt Townhouse. With three other locations – Wexford, Naas and just opened in Kelly’s hotel in Rosslare – Keville’s, lead by husband and wife team Alan and Alex, is one of the coolest salon groups in the country, with a super modern approach to hairdressing. They use (cruelty-free) Kevin Murphy products here which smell divine and work wonders. Blow-drys from €30;
