Post-holiday beauty: what we took, what we’re using now and what we’re looking forward to …
As much as I love make-up, one of the beauties of holidays is ditching it. While normally I rarely carry around less than five lipsticks on any given day, on holiday I just took a lip balm (Glossier’s Rose Balmdotcom), one lip colour (Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Lip Balm in the soft red of a clay tennis court) and moisturiser (Skin Regimen’s Tripeptide Cream Age-Defense Moisturiser, which isn’t cheap, but it’s wonderful). Oh, and Neom‘s Magnesium Body Butter (€46), a really luxurious way to restore moisture in the skin after sun and swimming. And that’s really it.
Post-holiday, while your skin still feels dry and dusty after being in the sunshine, you might find that it’s a good time to get stuck into some facial oil. I’m happy to be reunited with my Vintner’s Daughter oil, but any high-quality natural oil blends (Flora+Fiona do beautiful face oils, Relaxayvoo‘s natural face oil for nighttime is lovely to use, or wonderful local beauty brand Oxmantown‘s Rosehip & Neroli Regenerating Facial Oil, €32; such good value for the high quality) will help restore elasticity and condition to your skin. Aveda’s Damage Remedy collection (at Brown Thomas Beauty Lounge) is also welcome post-holiday; the Daily Hair Repair is essential and easy to use as you leave it in rather than rinse out.

Perfume-wise, I’m currently spraying Armani/Privé Orangerie Venise eau de toilette to prolong the holiday feel – but exciting arrivals on the horizon include: 2) Gabrielle Chanel Essence (from August 29), a new take on last year’s sunny scent, amping up the glorious white tuberose, and 3) a new one from Frederic Malle, currently top-secret … watch this space. Meanwhile, I urge you to try 4) the Jasmine Ylang Perfume Oil by Oxmantown – the jasmine, ylang ylang, lavender and neroli blend is the best €29 you’ll spend this summer (sensual, light, portable, cruelty-free, locally made and in stylish recyclable packaging).
5) Finally, you can now find Irish brand Pestle & Mortar in Marks and Spencer’s beauty department; try the Erase & Renew system to gently clean your skin after layering on all that SPF …
