With the summer solstice less than a month away and gatherings of up to four people allowed (the two metre distance rule still applies), picnic season is finally here. The best picnics are about providing an unforgettable experience. From cool blankets (the bigger the better) and gingham table cloths, to wicker baskets and keep-cool carafes, this is The Gloss’ guide on how to have a stylish picnic.

Choosing the right location is difficult at the moment, finding the balance between a pretty vista while actively avoiding the crowd. Sometimes the back garden is just as nice. Think beachside if you live on the coast or if you are land bound, parkland under a tree. Fill your basket with the best, whether that’s from Avoca or Lidl. Airy, romantic cotton dresses, flat sandals or box-fresh sneakers and a hat and sunglasses to keep you protected from the sun. This season’s shades? Think retro aviator frames (at Celine) or oversized shapes in tortoiseshell and warm tones (at Gucci).
