Things are looking SUNNY IN BEAUTY for SS18, SARAH HALLIWELL selects the products to try now …
The main style note we took from the recent Windsor wedding was the huge impact a single colour can make: namely yellow, which Amal Clooney singlehandedly made the shade of the summer in her striking Stella McCartney outfit. Yellow had a moment last year too, when Emma Stone’s La La Land dress impressed even the most dedicated monochrome-wearers among us. This year, designers from Dries Van Noten, Erdem and John Galliano at Margiela celebrated yellow on the SS18 catwalks, tempting us out of our habitual black and into something more colourful.
In beauty, too, things are looking sunny. L’Occitane‘s Verbena range (available from July 5) is always one of the loveliest for summer, and this year sees new products with added citrus or mint, such as this Moisturising Body Foam (€24). I love the packaging though I find the mousse idea a bit gimmicky – it feels like spreading shaving foam onto your skin and I don’t find it particularly moisturising. It smells fantastic though; really it’s just a different way of scenting your skin, and a rather nice subtle one at that. The hair and body mist in the same citrussy scent is gorgeous (€16). I keep a bottle of the eau de toilette on my desk all summer, and will take a mini bottle on holiday, too.
Molton Brown has a sunny Vetiver & Grapefruit range for summer, including shower gel (€22) and deodorant, and I think it’s one of their best scents yet – really fresh, breezy and entirely unisex.
Seattle-based naturally active skincare range Herbivore has the most beautiful golden Citrine neroli body oil (from €22.54; www.herbivorebotanicals.com), which is glorious to use: it smells peachy and beautiful, and is moisturising and soothing on the skin.
Make-up wise, I wouldn’t be going with yellow… I remember wearing yellow lipstick as a teen and it was certainly not a good look. The only exception to this is Chanel’s Giallo Napoli nail polish (€25) from the stunning Neapolis SS18 collection. It has divided opinion, but personally I think it’s fun and irreverent, plus it looks amazing if you have a darker skintone or a tan.
