Glossy Christmas Gift Guide: Three of the Best Scented Candles

SARAH HALLIWELL selects three of her favourites that make a super last-minute gift …

For a last-minute gift, you can’t go wrong with scented candles, when chosen carefully. Super-chic Cloon Keen Atelier candles made in Galway would be my first choice (Noble Fir is stunning, as is Transatlantic), but these three are also key contenders, and guaranteed to go down really well, at all price points:

1 Crop Candles are made by La Bougie in Cork in delightfully Irish scents like rain, grass, gorse and seaweed. They’re not only local and small-batch, but they’re amazingly affordable, too. €16 at Designist. There are also stick diffusers in the range of six scents. www.shop.designist.ie.

2 If you’re going luxe, go for Frederic Malle – the perfumed Joyeux Noel candle looks and smells great, filling your room with pine and amber; the orange glass jar makes a great pen-holder afterwards, and it offers 60 hours burn time (compared to other luxury candles which tend to be around 40 hours). If you prefer a woody incense smell that’s full of churchy atmosphere, go for Notre Dame. €60 at Parfumarija. www.parfumarija.com

3 Neom Organics candles are hard to beat if you like a more spa-like smell, and the Skin Treatment candles is more than just a candle: the Real Luxury De-Stress one, for example, is a blend of 21 essential oils, including jasmine, lavender and rosewood, and can also be used a body treatment – just burn for half an hour, then use the warm oil as a body moisturiser. And you can keep the pretty jar afterwards. €43 at Brown Thomas and at www.neomorganics.com.
