Sarah Halliwell selects the best HOME FRAGRANCE GIFTS to buy this year …
Whether you prefer scented candles or reed sticks, there are lots of lovely Irish options, from Field Day to Voya. My choice for a gift would be an oil diffuser, which are wonderfully effective at filling a room with a beautiful natural scent, and much longer lasting. Essential oils have different properties, and can have an impact on your mood, helping to uplift, energise or calm; see The Nature of Things website (www.thenatureofthings.ie) for more details.
1 This year, fragrance and oil expert Benoit Nicol set up The Nature of Things, a collection of the best-quality oils. Produced in Dublin, they can be used in a multitude of ways, from dropping them into a diffuser to blending with a carrier oil to use for massage, bath or body, from just €7. There are gift sets from €24, with the complete set of all 15 oils for €199, an absolutely beautiful gift. Check out the Swiss-made Stadler Form diffusers on the website, too; the mini Mia, in various colours, is €40. www.thenatureofthings.ie
2 I struggle to think of many lovelier gifts than a Modern Botany diffuser and their Aroma oil, a blend of eleven essential oils scent your entire home in the most natural way. It can be used as a soft light, too. €70 at www.modernbotany.com. (While you’re on the website, MB also have launched a 25ml travel version of their award-winning natural deodorant; pre-order now for €15 – it is excellent stuff).
3 If you’d rather stick with fragrant reed diffusers, try Greystones fragrance brand Brooke & Shoals – their extensive collection includes Grapefruit & Lemongrass, which makes a welcome change from all the cloves and cinnamon around at this time of year (or be a bit more adventurous with something like Sandalwood, Vanilla & Salted Caramel). €29, at stockists nationwide and www.brookeandshoals.ie. Note that their eau de toilettes are lovely, too.
