Glossy Christmas Gift Guide: Christmas Hampers

We’ve made it easy to order a CHRISTMAS HAMPER for friends or clients this year as Penny McCormick selects the ones that stand out from the crowd …

Impress any foodies in your life with the gift of one of The Butler’s Pantry hampers. “The Butler’s Pantry Selects”, €100, includes Chateau Landrieu Bordeaux Superieur, The Butler’s Pantry mince pies, Lorge chocolate box, olive oils and crackers, chutneys and jams as well as biscuits and chocolate, while “The Butler’s Pantry Deluxe”, €200, includes even more of the artisan products and fabulous Christmas food for which the nine shops are renowned.

Dollard & Co has four signature hampers, including “The Italian” and “The Irish Hamper” which come packed in wicker and cotton baskets, complete with leather straps and cloth lining. Their “Christmas Hamper”, €75, includes bottles of Château La Coste Frigousse Rouge and Château La Coste Première Cuvée Blanc. There’s also spices for mulled wines, a hot toddy mix, chocolate truffles and their famous Christmas pudding with Crossogue brandy butter.

For cheese and wine aficionados, newcomers Loose Canon are offering “The Introduction to Natural Wine Hamper,” which includes a bottle of red and white and some cheese. “The Irish Cheese Hamper” includes cheese, Irish charcuteries and biscuits from The Lismore Food Company. Priced from €30 – €90.

Brown Thomas’ “The Gatsby,” €350, is filled with surprises including Moët & Chandon champagne, red and white wines, sweet treats, coffee and tea blends from Fortnum & Mason and a delicious paté gift box from Edinburgh Preserves.

Carluccio’s festive gift boxes range from the truffle-based “Il Terzetto,” €20.95, pasta-inspired “Il Pentolone”, €34.95 and “Il Massimo,” €88 filled with panettone, gianduja-filled stars, amaretti and apricot biscuits and a bottle of Santa Sara prosecco with other treats.

The Burren Smokehouse has a range of hampers – my favourite is the “Smoked Salmon and Cheese Hamper,” €135, which includes three different types of smoked organic salmon (with honey, whiskey and fennel, or seaweed, or honey, or lemon and dill) as well as Irish cheeses such as Burren Gold Gouda with garlic and nettle, Cooleeney, Carrigaline, Gubbeen and Cratloe Hills Gold Sheep’s cheese – Sheridan’s crackers are also included.
