Four Spring Break Ideas That Will Work Wonders

From Pilates to private Barre classes, and cookery to cycling these wellness packages offer longterm benefits …

Spring Rising Retreat, Ballintubbert House & Gardens, Co Laois

Founder of Boann Yoga Barbara Carolan, chef Lu Thornely and food producer Niamh McDonnell are hosting a wellness retreat celebrating the union of food and yoga from February 4 – 6. The focus is on connecting with spring energies and nurturing good intentions, as Thorney explains: “Collectively, we’ve had a head-spinning experience over the past two years. This retreat is all about shaking off lethargy. We celebrate St Brigid’s Day with its origins in the Celtic festival of Imbolc (or “in the belly”), a festival of fertility that marked the beginning of spring in Ireland and the promise of new life and abundance for the year ahead.” The “Spring Rising Retreat” will incorporate Ashtanga-based Vinyasa Flow yoga sessions, soothing massages and reflexology in addition to a fermentation workshop with discussions on how to boost gut-healthy bacteria.

If you are unfamiliar with Ballintubbert it is a particularly special place with sublime gardens which has been home to many theatrical and literary greats including John Hurt, Sebastian Shaw and poet Cecil Day Lewis. The luxe accommodation comprises five double bedrooms in the main house, while a converted coach house has a further four bedrooms and there is also the stylish self contained Rose Garden Cottage on the main grounds. Prices start from €490 per person sharing and includes all yoga, fermentation workshop, cooking demo, dining and two nights luxury accommodation; www.balinttubbert.com.
