The Beauty Launch Of 2016: Victoria Beckham x Estée Lauder


The ever-stylish VICTORIA BECKHAM‘s limited edition beauty collection, created with ESTÉE LAUDER, is the beauty launch of the year. Here, beauty editor SARAH HALLIWELL explains why …

She’s put her name to fragrances and collaborated on nail colours, but this is the first time Victoria Beckham has created an entire beauty collection. Combine her designer eye and passion for make-up with the mighty experience and perfectionism of Estée Lauder, and you end up with something pretty special.

“It’s my perfect capsule beauty collection for women of all ages,” the designer told us at the immensely secretive press launch at her Dover Street boutique (so elegantly minimal you instantly feel overdressed).

While Beckham’s ready-to-wear may be out of reach for most of us, just an eyeliner or a lipstick can lend us a piece of designer glamour – and who wouldn’t want to pull one of these black and blonde-gold compacts out of their bags? It’s clear that run-of-the-mill make-up was never going to be on the agenda. “I always want to create something new, innovative and interesting,” declares Beckham.

I’ve shown the products – which range from black kajal liner to a highlighting skin cream called Morning Aura – to women aged from teen to seventies and the response is unequivocal: teens long for a lipstick for their birthday, while the compacts make everyone swoon. They stand out from the crowd with their weighty glamour. My pick would be the intensely pigmented Eye Metals (€40) – the depth of colour and metallic sheen is irresistible, and this compact will last for ages.

In fact, experimenting with the collection has made me change the way I wear make-up this season: instead of liquid liner or bright lipstick, I want to draw on tons of inky black eyeliner along the waterline, and pair it with toffee-nude lip colour (Beckham’s own signature shade, Brazilian Nude, €40) – elegant with an edge. The lipsticks are in a small, neat bullet, but give you the same amount of product as a standard size. The large compacts, featuring Modern Mercury Highlighter and Java Bronzer (€58 each), are long-lasting beauty staples: we’re firmly focussed on the “cost per wear” theory.

Finally, the trump card: the Light Box, pictured above, is an exquisite beauty case that features integral professional lighting (and a removable mirror, so it can be used for jewellery or keepsakes later on). Beckham came up with this from staying in endless “hotel rooms with terrible lighting” – this is the epitome of glamour on the go (though you may need to be travelling via private jet to get this through airport security – it rather outclasses the plastic bag scenario). A very small number of these boxes has been produced, so don’t wait for Christmas …
