First Look: Soul Engraver

Jewellery editor NATASHA SHERLING gets a first look at the new collection by SOUL ENGRAVER, launching at WEIR & SONS this week …

You might remember mention of Soul Engraver way back in January – we spied his work at Showcase and pegged him as one to watch. It looks like our predictions are becoming fact; he is launching his work in Weir & Sons on Thursday – but we have the first look right here.

At the heart of the work is engraving; Brian Dunne, the man behind the brand, is a Master Engraver whose skill took years to refine. His repertoire ranges from the tiniest gold rings to the the biggest showpieces – including taking charge of the all important trophies at each year’s RDS horse show.

The Soundwave collection is all about capturing a specific moment in time, from a baby’s first cry to the sound of favourite waves crashing on the shore. What we love is the almost abstract feel of the patterns; for those not in the know, they look like simple, beautiful delicate pieces of jewellery, the meaning apparent only to the wearer. This sense of quiet luxury makes for a very special collection. The range launching at Weir & Sons will include cufflinks, pendants and earrings featuring iconic Irish moments (we love these cufflinks, with the winning cheer from the Galway Races, and the pendant featuring the bells of Christchurch), although custom sounds are available for engraving on private request.
