First Look: Glossier Does Glitter and We Can’t Wait to Wear It …

A new range, GLOSSIER PLAY, has just landed, featuring lip lacquer, glitter and general glamour and fun …

We all got Glossier rather rapidly after its 2014 launch, when we saw how Emily Weiss’ beauty products worked as well as they looked: the Lash Slick mascara is one of our daily regulars, as is Balm Dotcom, and we swear by its Cloud Paint cheek colour in cute tubes; we also know many dedicated Boy Brow wearers. The transparent pink popper slide-close packaging doubles as a make-up bag. And it’s not over-priced – the mascara, for example, is €16 (a quick beauty hall search turns up literally no other full-sized mascara under €20, with most clocking in around €26/€27 and many up around €30).

So news of Glossier Play, a collection focusing on colour, is rather thrilling. Especially when it includes “Glitter Gelée”; despite being highly unlikely to wear glitter gel on eyes on a regular basis, it’s the kind of beauty item many of us are drawn to like magpies (I’m still enjoying Estée Lauder’s Eye Gloss by Violette, which adds an instant wet-look, light-reflecting gleam with a bit of sparkle to eyelids and is so quick to slick on). I love modern glitter looks; see Valentino SS19 for an extreme version, and Rodarte AW19 for glittering ruby lips and eyelids that bring to mind Dorothy’s slippers.

Glossier Play also includes gel eyeliner in lots of fab shades, including blue-grey Early Girl; high-shine lacquer for lips, Vinyl Lip, in a click pen (who does not want a glossy lip lacquer in a shade called Disco?); and a pearlescent highlighter. We’ll be trying them all out and reporting back on colours and textures …
