Fact: Whiskey Is No Longer Just A Man’s Drink

Kennedy’s credentials are impressive; she holds an MA in Gastronomy and Food Studies from TU Dublin. On the highly successful “Food for Thought” stage at this year’s Taste of Dublin Festival, Kennedy chaired a panel discussion around “Women in Whiskey”. She suggested that women wanted to be included in the overall target audience rather than be dumbed down or demeaned with “pinkwashing”. This opinion was shared by Aoife Clarke, Senior Director of Public Affairs International at Beam Suntory, and Judith Boyle, Beverage Lecturer at TU Dublin. All three women look forward to whiskey marketing being more inclusive to reflect current beverage trends. They believe women should no longer be “the bait” in whiskey marketing to attract men, nor be seen as the gift givers of fine blends to their male relations. On their own merit, women are becoming connoisseurs of whiskey, enjoying the sensory pleasure of its drinking – its aroma and the wonderful range of Irish whiskeys on the market today.

Kennedy has drawn on her research into Irish food and beverage culture and on her years of experience running her own award-winning Irish food business to create this unique hamper. Inspired by the quality of Fercullen and both the history and location of Powerscourt Distillery, Kennedy has matched perfectly the 8-year-old, 10-year-old and 14-year-old award-winning Fercullen whiskeys with some of the most delicious food pairings.

These pairings comprise Irish farmhouse cheeses in a variety of styles and textures, including some local Wicklow Ban cheese. There’s also a selection of Irish charcuterie from the Wooded Pig, local honey from the Powerscourt Estate as well as Irish crackers, local breads, and other accompaniments add to the “food story”. Sweet treats include a small selection of Irish-made biscuits, many of them gluten-free, locally baked cakes, such as the Fercullen fruit cake steeped in whiskey. There is a large selection of locally made chocolates, as well as other treats. Each hamper comes with a QR code that gives the recipient a link to watch a pre-recorded presentation with Kennedy on how to best enjoy a whiskey tasting and food pairing journey – a marriage made in gastronomy heaven!
