Everything You Need to Know About Ruth Crilly’s Beauty Magnified Event at Arnotts

On the final day of BEAUTY MAGNIFIED at Arnotts – a month of events, talks and masterclasses held in-store – The Gloss Magazine hosted a talk with Ruth Crilly …

In a relaxed chat, while the audience (which included a great age range) sipped gin and tonics, Ruth Crilly, model and beauty insider also known as @ModelRecommends, talked about why she began blogging and making videos about beauty, and discussed her essential buys, from skincare to mascara.

As she approaches 40, she is a recent convert to retinol (Elizabeth Arden’s retinol capsules are handy to use when you’re travelling a lot; she uses these every other night, alternating with a good moisturiser). For cleansing, Ruth picked out Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm as a good all-rounder, and Pixi’s cult Glow Tonic (an exfoliating toner with glycolic acid).

And we discussed the Beauty Hub at Arnotts – the area in the Beauty Hall filled with the latest most innovative and exciting brands, including “disruptor” brands like The Ordinary and The INKEY List – Ruth’s advice was to make sure you know what your skin needs so you can choose carefully from these affordable lines. Her refreshingly down-to-earth and engaging approach made it a fun event.

Other Beauty Hub brands that should be on your radar include Skin Regimen, an Italian range that’s leading the way in terms of sustainable luxury skincare, as well as star Irish products like natural oil-serum, Nunaia, and Pestle & Mortar skincare, which Ruth has tried recently and was impressed by. And don’t miss the selection of Travel Essentials – who doesn’t love mini versions of favourite things, from MAC lipsticks to Eyeko mascara.

PS If you were wondering about Ruth’s outfit, she picked out these Essentiel Antwerp trousers and fringed sleeve sweater in store.
