Design Destination: Rathmines

Get DESIGN INSPIRATION from a visit to RATHMINES this weekend …

EAT … at the POT BELLIED PIG, designed by Roisin Lafferty of Kingston Lafferty Design. With an exuberant palette of blush pink and forest green, the space on the Rathmines Road features velvet banquettes, gold trimmed furnishings, palm print wallpaper and deep green Moroccan tiles. Go for the Instagram opportunity, stay for brunch. 11 Rathmines Road Upper.

WATCH … a film at the STELLA THEATRE. The refurbishment of the 1920s cinema was by O’Donnell O’Neill Design who maintained its art deco features right down to the restoration of the marble stairs and the recreation of the original 1920s facade. 207 – 209 Rathmines Road Lower.

SHOP … at BEAUTIFUL SOUTH, the stylish womenswear boutique stocking brands including Rachel Comey, Stephen Schneider and MM6. Visit as much for the interiors as for the clothing; an original Poul Cadovius shelving system is complemented by light fittings handmade in Venice fitted with Murano glass shades. Owner Grainne Wynne designed the interiors herself and added a statement centrepiece; an original Eames chair from Michael Mortell. 3D Castlewood Avenue.

PICK UP … special ingredients at FALLON & BYRNE’s food hall in the Swan Centre. The project was led by Fionnuala Hayes of Howley Hayes Architecture. Free-standing metro shelving, parquet floors and a grey stone counter with copper detailing are just some of the notable features. While there, stop for a scoop of gelato (made fresh daily) served from an extended pistachio green 1970s Fiat Cinquecento. 39 Castlewood Avenue.
