Delicious Food: Do Try These At Home

While the recent balmy weather may seem like a distant memory and outdoor dining may be suspended for now, restaurant quality meals are still an indulgence that we can acquire with the greatest of ease. Birthdays, anniversaries and celebrations in all forms may be a more muted affair during lockdown but we can continue to commemorate these special occasions with outstanding meals at home.

Cafe Paradiso, Cork

Vegetarians (and indeed non-vegetarians) will be elated to learn that Denis Cotter of Cork’s Café Paradiso fame has launched Paradiso at Home for those missing his excellent food. Meal kits serving two people are priced at €38 and include a feta, pistachio and couscous cake or an artichoke, lemon risotto and nettle broth kit available for collection. There is a range of pantry items also available including walnut crumb, pistachio dukkah and carrot harissa which would elevate even the most mundane of dishes. www.paradisoathome.com

On Dublin’s Merrion Row, Etto has reopened for collection and the set menu for two people priced at €60 would certainly make Friday night’s dinner memorable. Smoked almonds and marinated Nocellara olives will pair nicely with a cold Fino sherry this weekend and there is also a Salumi plate, a starter of braised fennel barigoule, slow cooked short rib beef and ox tongue ragu, followed by red wine prunes with vanilla mascarpone. www.etto.ie

In Galway, Chef JP McMahon is offering a limited take away menu from Tartare Café and Wine Bar. The pork belly bao bun with black garlic mayo and sauerkraut looks particularly appealing and would make a most memorable Saturday lunch whatever the weather. Takeaway is also available from Cava, if excellent tapas is your preferred weekend indulgence www.eatgalway.ie. Staying in the west, the much lauded Lignum Restaurant are feeding hungry patrons at home with the Lignum a Casa menu available for collection. Wood fired sourdough with cultured butter and lamb agnolotti with lamb broth would be an enviable meal to enjoy at home this Saturday night. https://www.instagram.com/lignumrestaurant

In Wexford, The Duck Restaurant at Marlfield House is open for collection with a two course menu starting at €29. There is also a vegetarian menu available and optional extras include a cheeseboard and a selection of wines from their cellar that would make a cosy night in this weekend complete. www.marlfieldhouse.com

Wild Goose Grill

Dublin stalwart Peploe’s have launched a click and collect service with a selection of their classic dishes available to take home. Peploe’s famous fish pie is on the menu and the ½ West Cork lobster thermidor would make a very fine celebratory meal this weekend, whatever the occasion; www.peploes.ie. In Ranelagh, The Wild Goose Grill have begun offering a Goose To Go service with their excellent value Sunday lunch menu available for collection at €20.95 including their signature Duo of goose dish; www.thewildgoosegrill.ie.

Grano

If you should happen to reach Sunday evening and the fridge is looking bare, might we suggest indulging in some excellent pasta from Grano in Stoneybatter, the ultimate in comfort food. Grano a Casa is available for collection and a steaming bowl of their cacio e pepe with your favourite box set is a celebration of a different kind. www.grano.ie

Sticking with Italian, Temple Bar’s Rosa Madre has just launched its Rosa Madre at Home delivery and collection service. You can choose from the full Rosa Madre Box (€52 for two people) which includes a selection of cured meats and cheese with olives, stracciatella di Burrata with semi-dried cherry tomatoes, rosemary and garlic foccacia and a selection of handmade pasta as well as Rosa Madre’s famous tiramisu for dessert. You can also order any of these dishes individually for both delivery (within a 7km radius of the restaurant) and collection from Thursday-Sunday, though there is a €30 minimum spend for delivery. Buon appetito! www.rosamadreathome.com
