Cheap Thrills: The Beauty Buys Under €20 We Love Now

2 MIN READ SAVE

Five brilliant beauty buys under €20: these are the high street heroes we’re wearing now, from lipstick to foundation …

FOR LIPS

1 A lasting lipstick for less than a fiver? Yes, it is possible. Catrice Demi-Matt Lipstick delivers maximum impact while being comfortable to wear (that’ll be the avocado and olive oils). It’s also vegan and cruelty-free. My pick is 050 Boss Up, a bright, no-messing scarlet, but there are nine other shades, including nudes and roses. €4.50, at Penneys.

2 If you love a punchy lip colour, try one of the new breed of liquid lip colours: L’Oreal Paris Rouge Signature in twelve shades from hot pink to velvety plum, is a way to wear an emphatic statement lip without the lip-shrivelling dryness that usually comes with it. You can also blot off the colour for more of a lip stain finish. €13.85, at select pharmacies nationwide.

FOR FACE

3 So many people I’ve spoken to rate this Vichy MinéralBlend fluid foundation. Even if you usually wear more expensive foundation, you’ll be surprised by how good this is for €18.95 – it performs as well as others that cost twice as much. It’s properly lightweight but contains a high water content rather than silicones, so it doesn’t slide off your face or crumble off as silicone-heavy formulas tend to do. Just use a tiny amount and smooth in like a moisturiser – it’s really quick to apply. I use the tiny kabuki brush to apply it and find it gives a really smooth finish that still lets your skin show through. And it contains hyaluronic acid so doesn’t feel drying on your skin. Available in six shades.

4 At Boots, No7 Brush Collection is €18. At Boots, you’ll also find bargainous skincare from cult brand The Ordinary (at www.Boots.ie) – pared-back, effective skincare, including an excellent Squalane Cleanser, Rosehip Seed Oil and Hyaluronic Acid, each under €10.

FOR HAIR

5 You can get 200ml of Elnett Satin hairspray for less than €8 and that is good news. The golden can has been around since 1960 and there’s a reason why it’s endured – it works. The first hairspray to not leave a residue in your hair, it also has that distinctive, nostalgic smell that conjures up the most glamorous evening out, even if you’re just going down the pub. At counters nationwide.
