5 Hacks To Brighten Your Space Now That Your Decorations Are Down

desperately seeking brightness …

It’s the time of year we all dread: when January hits and the decorations come down. Even if you’ve only had your tree up for a few weeks (for the more hardcore it will be more like a month) it suddenly feels as if there is a void in your space. Everything feels bland and a little lacklustre. The one piece of advice we can offer? Distraction. Think of other areas where you can add interest, with a pop of colour and extra light, and soon your home won’t seem so forlorn. Read on for our tips on how to keep the January blues at bay.

Get a statement print

A statement print that boasts bright patterns or unexpected colours is a surefire way to lift your space from dull to dazzling.

Go big with a mirror

A light-boosting mirror will not only make your space feel more airy (combating those January blues) but a striking frame will also bring a new-for-2022 vibe to your home. At the moment we’re loving quirky pieces with mirrored or lacquered finishes. Plus, if you’re not ready to part with all the decorations, you could do as the above image and keep some foliage on the mantle for the time being. Get the look with this mirror, below from Oliver Bonas.

switch up your kitchen essentials

Update your kitchen basics. These enamel pieces by Matilda Goad are fun and colourful – they can be used in the oven or as serving dishes, too.

bring the outdoors in

It’s not just extra lights you loose when you take down the tree, it’s a hunk of greenery, too. Bring the outdoors in by dotting bulbs – such as narcissus or hyacinth – in small pots around your living area. Stick them on top of books on a coffee table or let them take centre stage next to candelabra on a sideboard: a friendly reminder that spring isn’t far off.

consider a paint change

Examine your space with fresh eyes. Is the paintwork a little tired? Would a change in colour give the room a new lease of life? Sustainable paint shop Lick has just opened an EU shop where it offers peel and stick paint samples – perfect for when you’re in the mood for experimentation.
