The Beauty Buzz: My Top Travel Essentials

Guest beauty expert Leonard Daly shares his ultimate travel essentials for carry-on luggage …

For anyone (like me) who hates having to check in a bag when travelling, I have found the perfect solution for managing to squeeze all your travel toiletries into hand luggage.

First up from Image skincare is their post treatment kit, which comes with a mini cleanser, serum, mask and SPF 50. These kits are mega and are really affordable at just €16.50. The products are small, so one set would only last for a weekend away – if you’re heading away for a week bring two. Also, if you plan on sitting in the sun you will need more SPF; I love P20 as you only need to apply it once per day, twenty minutes before going in the sun and it is water resistant.

For shower gel I tend to buy one in the airport – my partner Glenn uses about twenty times the amount needed so decanting into a small bottle would never work for us. If I am travelling alone I always decant. I also bring a shower flower with me (I get mine in Ikea) as you can make a small amount of shower gel go a lot further. Make sure to bring a small ziplock bag to keep it separate when travelling home in case it is still damp. If I am going to Spain I always buy a bottle of S3 shower gel there, it is the classic cologne scent, I love it and it is super cheap. I do the same for body lotion.

I always bring my favourite fragrance with me. I buy the smallest bottle available. I have been wearing Carnal Flower from Frederick Malle for quite a while now, I only swap it out for the fragrance that I made in France.

When it comes to make-up, try and be super smart with what you pack by bringing as many multi-use products as possible. Firstly, bring a great concealer that you can blend with your moisturiser to use as a foundation – when you are on holiday it’s good to try and give your skin a break from lots of foundation. I adore NARS Soft Matte Concealer, it’s the perfect consistency and easy to use as you can simply blend it with your fingers.

For cheeks and lips you can use the same product, I love Charlotte Tilbury Beach Sticks, they even look great on eyes. Tom Ford make the most beautiful cream shadows, Platinum (below) is my favourite colour, it is the perfect light brown shade. Just dab this wonder product onto your lid with the pad of your inside finger for the perfect light eye makeup, add some kohl liner to create a more dramatic look. I always smudge liners when doing this look and I adore the Bobbi Brown long wear eye pencils. Also bring a good illuminator with you. Try and use a cream based product, as powders don’t really work their best in heat. Tom Ford’s Shade and Illuminate cheeks is perfect and can also be used for blush and lips.

Finally, use Urban Decay’s All Nighter setting spray to keep everything in place, again powders can look a bit cakey in heat so a spray is perfect, and as a bonus they also work as a cooling aid when you’re hot!
