A First Look At Brown Thomas’ AW17 Collection

It’s the SEASON OF COLOUR as Brown Thomas show their BOLD and BRIGHT autumn winter collection …

On Tuesday, July 11, Brown Thomas showcased their AW17 International Designer Collections where over 200 guests gathered at their Grafton Street location to see what Fashion Director Shelly Corkery has in store for the season ahead. With key trends of florals, red and colour block, the sense of colour that enveloped the show was a main talking point.

Highlights for our Style Editor, Aislinn Coffey, included collections by Dries Van Noten and Erdem, while two new Irish models Aine Tubridy and Chantal Adekoya of NotAnother agency stood out. Red is the colour of the season according to Balenciaga, Gucci and Magda Butrym among others – Aislinn recommends trying Balenciaga’s cherry red waist high boots for a showstopping look, or as an alternative, pair your red Christian Louboutin’s with matching red tights. Pink also stands out as shown by Céline, Roksanda and more, for a truly on-trend look, break the previous fashion rules and pair red and pink together.

Themes of the new season include; Soft Romance, a truly feminine feel with pastel tones, silks, chiffons and lace by Chloé and Erdem; Hero Tailoring with looks from Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney and more which included oversized outerwear and boxy blazers; floral prints and patterns are celebrated in the Found Florals theme, noticeable in collections by Gucci and Balenciaga, clashing florals in bold colours make up the base print for many pieces; and Film Noir which is influenced by the 1940s and 1950s with a focus on jackets and their ability to emphasise and define the female form. Other key trends include The Collector, Femme Modern and Artful Architecture, while new brands for AW17 include Delpozo, Jacquemus and Ulla Johnson.
