A bit like “florals for spring”, the notion that dresses might ever be out of fashion is laughable. Dresses are just shapes after all – with holes for neck, arms and a larger one your legs poke through – but Fashion with a big F likes to pretend it’s reinventing the wheel. So hold the front page! This season it’s all about the “Day Dress” (instead of a nightdress?). What are we seeing is lots and lots of pretty print dresses in classic knee-length, the-right-side-of-prim flattering shapes, many with (phew!) long sleeves. The sort of dress you might wear to have afternoon tea with your mum, your great-aunt, or if, lucky thing, you still have a gran. The news is the occasional dress has become a daily occurrence. So while it’s just a dress, along with the occasional table and the occasional chair, it’s a charming and useful item. But you might have one already …
