5 Key Beauty Trends to Look Forward to This Autumn/Winter 2019

A look ahead to AW19 – the FRESH BEAUTY LOOKS we’re loving, hot off the catwalks, and that we’ll actually wear …

L -R: Erdem, Zimmermann, Philipp Plein.

There’s a black liner season ahead – the inkier and blacker the better. From incomplete lines of coal-black (at Richard Malone and Proenza Schouler), lower lashline accents and wings of sharp charcoal at Zimmermann, autumn’s going to be the season to sharpen your kohl. The sharp graphic sweep of graphite at Erdem was a favourite look, created by Val Garland using NARS Minorque Kohliner, Via Veneto Larger Than Life Long-wear Eyeliner and Pandora Duo Eyeshadow.

L – R: Zimmermann, Coach, Brandon Maxwell.

The trend for glowing, healthy skin continues, with radiance the order of the day. Think freckles, a natural-looking glow and definitely no harsh lines of contour. Spiky mascara goes well with it, as seen at Brandon Maxwell. The inspiration for the Molly Goddard show was Tess of the d’Urbervilles (think windswept and flushed cheeks) and you can’t go wrong with that.

L – R: Prabal Gurung, Brock Collection.

Big statement earrings continue to challenge our earlobes, with pearls taking precedence. Since beauty looks are all about brightness and radiance at the moment, it’s no surprise that pearls are a passion – they’re famed for their ability to reflect light onto the skin. Look to Simone Rocha, David Koma and Prabal Gurung for how to wear them, or Brock Collection for subtle single earrings.

L – R: David Koma, Tom Ford.

Get dark around the eyes – in a good way. We’ll definitely be wearing sultry shades of grey as seen at Tom Ford and trying the smudgy shadow at David Koma (created by Andrew Gallimore using Code8 Iconoclast Eye Palette in Jaipur Marbles Smoke Shade, custom-made Eyestick in Dark Dreams and finished with Code8 Contour Eye Pencil in Classic).

L – R: 3.1 Philip Lim, Zimmermann.

Hair-wise, short crops were cool at Victoria Beckham and there were smooth ‘dos with a twist at Zimmermann, but we especially loved the Pre-Raphaelite frothiness at Philip Lim and Michael Kors – crimped, crinkled hair and big clouds of fluffed-up frizz. Many of us wake up like this, or get the look purely by being somewhere humid …
