5 Glossy Things To Do This Weekend

5 MIN READ SAVE

WHAT: “The real joy of Timeless is discovering that something different, the one magical piece that makes a home,” says Paul Brereton, President of the Irish Antique Dealers. Taking place at RDS from September 13 – 15, Timeless is always a pleasure to visit with something for all tastes – mid-century furniture, antique jewellery, Art Deco objets and artwork. Did you know, by the way, the reason Victorian jewellery settings and cuts are trending? The cushion cut engagement ring of Duchess of Sussex, apparently. www.timelessantiquesfair.ie

WHERE: Cliff Townhouse Oyster Festival is underway with several different “Oyster Sessions”. There’s a special offer of six Irish Oysters with a glass of Billecarte Salmon Champagne available every day for €30 per person. Urchin at Cliff Townhouse will have a delicious Seafood Platter to share and two glasses of house wine for just €60. And there’s a three-course “Jazz & Oyster Sunday Lunch” on Sunday September 29 when head chef Sean Smith will give a short and interesting talk and demonstration with oysters. This costs €50 per person and there is a 12.30pm and 2pm sitting to choose from. www.clifftownhouse.ie

WHO: Remember Charlotte York’s question in SATC when life got tough – ‘What would Elizabeth Taylor do?’ The answer was invariably to dust herself down and dress-up. Now some of Dame Elizabeth Taylor’s most unusual jewellery and garments (by Christian Dior, Nolan Millar, Valentino and Versace) are centre stage at “The Lifestyle of Elizabeth Taylor” exhibition at the Museum of Style Icons at Newbridge Silverware. The collection offers visitors an opportunity to see the items before they go to auction in LA in December (6 – 7 at Julien’s Auctions). The exhibition will be on until October 6. www.visitnewbridgesilverware.ie

WHY: Two free outdoor screenings of the acclaimed David Attenborough Netflix documentary Our Planet will take place this weekend – on Friday September 13 in Merrion Square, and on Saturday September 14 in Blackrock Park, Dublin. The screenings have been organised one week prior to the Global Strike for Climate Action where millions will take to the streets around the world demanding an end to the age of fossil fuels. The events will open at 7:30pm with screenings from 8:15pm. www.happenings.ie

AND … To the The Westbury this weekend and hopefully for a physical and mental reset with personal trainer Siobhan Byrne and co-owner of BodyByrne Fitness. She is running a new “Wellness at the Weekend Experience” – an overnight package with a full day fitness and nutrition programme. The experience begins at the civilised time of 10am with a meet and greet with Siobhan, followed by some mobility and stretching and a high intensity circuit training before lunch in Balfes. The afternoon session starts with some “pyramid” training and an abs attack class. An informative nutrition and training question and answer session with Siobhan is also on the menu with snacks and juices from the Westbury’s Juicery. The day will end with yoga practice and breath work to re-establish energy flow, before a luxurious overnight stay in the Westbury Hotel. The Wellness at the Weekend Experience (from €599) is available on September 14 and 21, October 5 and November 16. To book phone 01 6463333 or email westbury_reservations@doylecollection.com.
