5 Glossy Things To Do This Weekend

WHY: Now that dry January is over, there’s a new bar in which to celebrate at the newly-revampled Mont Hotel, Dublin on the corner of Clare Street beside Merrion Square. The Sin Bin’s stylish interiors pay homage to the local area with stained wood features and eclectic artwork. Patrons can also make use of the Winter Garden, where they can relax and enjoy a cocktail all year round, regardless of the weather. Pitched as a sports bar (there are two large HD screens and a projector in the bar area for Six Nations matches), the menu includes woodfired pizzas, barbeque ribs, spicy chicken wings, succulent burgers and much more. This weekend, acoustic guitar duo, Proud Mary, will be providing entertainment from 7pm onwards after the Ireland v Scotland game.  www.thesinbin.ie

WHERE: Have you been to Wild Ireland yet? It’s Donegal’s new nature park, which opened last year, and is home to endangered animals such as brown bears, wolves, lynxes, wild boars and rare monkey breeds to name a few. Why not combine a visit with a stay at the nearby Redcastle Hotel and Spa, Moville, where a new glamping-themed experience combines a family (of four) stay with torches, books and colouring packs for children as well as entrance to Wild Ireland. The hotel is only 20 minutes from Derry city, and is also next door to Leisureland and boasts a spa, golf course and cinema, so it is perfect for family gatherings or a relaxing getaway. Weekend rates for a room based on two adults and two children are from €235. www.redcastlehoteldonegal.com

WHO: Founded in 2016 by Melanie Lynch, Herstory’s mission is to provide authentic female role models and a game-changing education programme, inspiring countries around the world to start their own Herstory movements. The Herstory Light Festival, takes place on the weekend of Brigid’s Day, Friday January 31 – Monday February 3, and will be marked with a series of illuminations projected onto public buildings around the country, along with story-telling events, guided walks and artistic performances. Lynch is currently campaigning to establish Brigid’s Day as a national holiday.  “It’s time to write a new story of equality and inclusion, by celebrating Brigid, matron saint and triple goddess, equally to Ireland’s patron St Patrick. Making Brigid’s Day a national holiday would be a real reflection of today’s Ireland, sending a strong egalitarian message to the world.” Find out more about the Light Festival and book tickets herstory.ie/light
