WHERE: The Millennium Wing Studio at the National Gallery has been transformed into a tropical paradise, featuring an Irish fashion showcase from stylist and creative director Aisling Farinella and fashion photographer Eilish McCormick, comprising mixed media installations and real nail art. “Renaillssance” opened last week and runs until September 12, celebrating the collaboration between Tropical Popical and the National Gallery which started one year ago with the aim of making collections and exhibitions more accessible, and for historic artworks to provide inspiration for new creative practices. www.
WHO: The Irish Georgian Society is celebrating the life and legacy of Wilhelmina Weber Furlong, one of America’s earliest avant-garde Modernist painters, by presenting the first major exhibition of her work outside the United States this month. Weber Furlong was a major American artist who pioneered Modern impressionistic and still-life painting at the turn of the twentieth century. The exhibition will also feature works by her Irish American husband Thomas Furlong, a well-known muralist and art teacher. The exhibition is open from 10am-5.30pm daily, August 1-29, with free admission. www.igs.ie
WHAT: Festival season isn’t over yet. Beatyard returns to Dun Laoghaire harbour for what could be its final year in the seaside location. The fifth edition of the family-friendly, multi-stage festival takes place over two days on Saturday August 3 and Sunday August 4. Groove Armada and CHVRCHES are set to headline the festival with acts including Jungle, Todd Terje, Grandmaster Flash and Krystal Klear also included in the weekend line-up. Guests can expect food from Eatyard, with vendors including pizza from the Big Blue Bus, Handsome Burger and Dun Laoghaire locals Teddy’s Ice Cream. All Together Now returns to Curraghmore House, Waterford for its second year with headliners including The National, Patti Smith and Hot Chip. With all tickets now sold out, festival organisers are keen to educate festival goers on the importance of sustainability, with educational videos and a dedicated area at the festival where visitors can learn about sustainable and fair-trade products. And of course, it’s a ‘leave no trace’ zone with attendees encouraged to bring home everything they arrive with and to recycle waste responsibly throughout the weekend, with donation banks also available for unwanted camping equipment at the end of the festival. www.alltogethernow.ie
