PENNY McCORMICK rounds up the best events taking place this weekend …

WHY: Johnstown Estate, Co Meath is offering a tempting package called “Escape the January Blues,” starting from €125 per night per couple sharing. This includes an overnight stay (Sunday – Thursday) in a deluxe double room with breakfast, two–course dinner in The Coach House Bar, full use of the Leisure Centre with swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Canadian hot-tub. They are also adding in a €10 voucher to spend on a spa treatment during your stay. We recommend one of the luxurious Elemis Hot Mineral Body Boost which includes a Pro Radiance Facial. www.johnstownestate.com.

WHAT: Alex Findlater & Co. Food & Wine Hall, 109 O’Connell Street, Limerick, is hosting a “Fresh start with Alex”, tonight Thursday January 24. Guests can enjoy a glass of skinny prosecco as they watch an informative demonstration of healthy pizza alternatives by head chef John Mount, promising plenty of taste tests along the way. www.alexfindlaterandco.ie.

WHY: If you’re still struggling to streamline your life, then a read of An Edited Life by blogger, podcaster and influencer, Anna Newton might help. She will be signing books at Kilkenny Shop, Nassau Street, Dublin 2 from 6.30-8pm this evening where she will also be answering questions from the audience. A limited number of tickets are still available on Eventbrite. Another useful book is the Get Up and Go Daily Planner for Busy Women which includes inspirational poems, plenty of extra pages for list making and spaces for financial tracking.

WHERE: The Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin has an interesting exhibition entitled “Intimacy” which questions if technology is killing closeness and compromising human connection. It’s inspiring to see how different, international artists such as Marian Abramovic and Nadim Choufi respond to the subject matter. For further information see dublin.sciencegallery.com/intimacy.

AND … If whiskey is your tipple of choice then best to book ahead to a special Teeling Whiskey Tasting Dinner next Thursday January 31 at the Conrad Dublin, Earlsfort Terrace. This begins with a cocktail at Lemuel’s on arrival before a five course tasting dinner served in the Coburg. Costing €60 per person, tickets are limited and pre-booking is essential via Eventbrite. Each guest will receive a goodie bag on departure.
