5 Autumn Interior Trends

Refresh your home for the NEW SEASON with decadent decor, new furniture and on-trend corduroy …

Decadent Decor

Velvet-covered cocktail chairs are popping up everywhere. Although 20th century in origin (specifically 1920s and 1930s), these jewel-like velvet armchairs have a distinctly modern feel, with simple shape, deep seat and spindly golden legs. We also love vintage-style printed velvet curtains (€120) from Carolyn Donnelly’s Eclectic collection at Dunnes Stores. Velvet chairs, from €499; www.westelm.co.uk.

Out of the Blue

Hot on the heels of millennial pink comes millennial blue. Tastemakers say pale blue will be huge next season. Similar to millennial pink, millennial blue ranges from milky to baby to dusky. Paint now to get ahead of the trend. Monet Lily emulsion paint from the Popular Colours collection, €17.49 for 1l; www.fleetwood.ie.

Bold as Brass

Talk about spending ages in the bathroom: chrome has prevailed for a decade. Brushed brass is the finish trending for taps. We like the sleek design of the Union basin mixer tap from Crosswater (above; www.crosswater.co.uk) and Ikea’s new Insjön version.

And So(Ho) To Bed

The design of Soho House clubs, spas and hotels have long provided interior inspiration to those who love a bit of hotel chic at home. “Soho House members and guests constantly ask me: Where do you get the pillows? Where do you get the mattresses?” said founder Nick Jones to Dezeen magazine. So, Soho Home was born, an e-commerce site which allows you bring Soho House home. This season sees the launch of the complete bed collection: a range of wooden, upholstered and cast iron beds in a range of size and styles from all its houses. For more affordable hotel-chic-at-home, look to Francis Brennan’s The Collection for Dunnes Stores. His 300-thread count cotton percale Oxford pillow cases (€15 each), flat sheets (from €30) and smart valances (from €30) are a dream. www.dunnesstores.com.

Corduroy

Corduroy is back in a big way this season in fashion and interiors. Normann Copenhagen’s new Ace chair is a chic way to reflect the 1970s-inspired trend at home (it is upholstered in JAB’s Cord Uno jumbo cotton corduroy). We think it looks particularly up-to-date with the addition of the glamorous gold legs. Green Ace chair in Uno corduroy by JAB, €1,075; matching footstool, €445; both www.normann-copenhagen.com.
