If you haven’t yet been convinced to ADD AN OIL to your SKINCARE ROUTINE, VOTARY could well change your mind …
We’d been reading about Votary facial oils for some time – they were exclusive to Liberty in London until now – and so we were interested to meet co-founder Arabella Preston at SpaceNK Grafton Street recently as she launches the line into the beauty boutique. If you haven’t yet been convinced to add an oil to your skincare routine, Votary could well change your mind: with a rose geranium and apricot cleansing oil (€54; use with a warm flannel) through to different choices of naturally unctuous nourishing oils (Jasmine & Calendula; Rose Maroc & Sandalwood; Neroli & Myrrh), plus a very gorgeous Lemon & Neroli Toning Serum (€89) to prep skin with, this is a carefully conceived collection of appealing bottle. We’re also drawn to the new Night Oil with its gentle retinol, ideal if you’re thinking of starting with a retinol product at night (and post-40 everyone should, facialist Martha Tiernan of No.3 Herbert Street salon tells us).
But there are literally gallons of face oils out there now, at all kinds of prices too, from Trilogy’s excellent organic Rosehip Oil (from €22.95) to La Mer’s glorious Renewal Oil (€185). So what makes these different? “There’s no emulsifier, which is usually added to bind together oil and water, but offers no benefit for the skin. These are fragrance-free, entirely natural and high-quality oils, made in the UK,” Preston tells us. “The Super Seed oil contains 21 different seed oils for the skin, and it’s a really nourishing, fragrance-free blend.” There’s also a body oil, available online. The facial oils are €77 (Super Seed €83), with the retinol Night Oil €160 (£135stg). So these are investment oils, but high-quality, classy ones that will up your skincare game and nourish your skin for the colder months ahead.
