Beauty editor SARAH HALLIWELL rounds up the top spots for a BLOWDRY in Dublin …
The blowdry bar has practically become as ubiquitous as nail bars, with one on every corner. But not all blowdrys are equal. We don’t want our hair pulled and yanked, we want fast but thorough washing and drying, and we don’t want to look bouffant or like our mother. Here’s where to find the best blowdrys for all occasions:
For fashion favourites
Michael Leong oversees the hair salon at stylish Callan & Co, in a peaceful spot just off Baggot Street. Serious expert credentials are paired with good coffee and a friendly and relaxed experience. Nip upstairs for a James Read tan while you’re here. Blowdrys from €30.
Callan & Co, 1 St. Mary’s Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, 01 6680060; www.callanandco.ie.
For style and substance
We’re big fans of Roller Blow Dry Bar – they do a mean blowdry, they give you coffee to go, it’s friendly and it looks great. Oh and they use Kevin Murphy products. We just wish there was one near us. Early opening from 7am Monday-Friday (9am on Saturday). From €30.
23 Forbes Street, Hanover Quay, Dublin 2, 01 549 4922; www.roller.ie.
In a hurry
Dry & Fly Blow Dry Beauty Bar is handily placed on Wicklow Street and offers early opening from 7am Monday to Friday, with late opening on Friday and Saturday until 10pm. From €18 for a Dry & Fly (no wash); blowdrys €28.
15 Wicklow Street, Dublin 2, 01 557 7801; www.dryandfly.com.
Short of cash
It’s a well-kept Dublin secret, but Galligan Beauty Group on Grafton Street do blowdrys for a tenner, on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
109 Grafton Street, Dublin 2, 01 670 3933.
For big occasions
Head here for a luxurious experience in an intimate salon, with stylists who are really experienced and take time to look after your hair properly. We were a bit horrified to pay €42 here for a blowdry (it included a treatment for dry/distressed hair). But it was a seriously good one with plenty of volume, and it lasted for days. Blowdrys from €26 short to €35 for “big and bouncy”.
De Stijl, 93A Monkstown Road, Monkstown, Co Dublin, 01 214 5495; www.destijlhair.com.
Big day ahead
Head to Blow salon on Upper Leeson Street if you’re an early bird: they’re open from 6.30am Monday to Friday. Noelle McCarthy’s Blow has been running since 2002, so you know you’re getting a great level of experience. Blowdrys from €30.
144 Leeson Street Upper, 01 607 0222; www.blow.ie.
Blown Away is a mobile blowdry service based in Clonakilty, West Cork run by ex-Toni & Guy stylist Eva. Prices from €20 for a blowdry (plus €3 travel cost)
