What We Love About Chanel’s Cruise Beauty Collection, Arriving June 29…

We get the lowdown on CHANEL’s CRUISE BEAUTY COLLECTION

Whether or not you’re going somewhere exotic this summer, Chanel’s Cruise collection – Éclat et Transparence de Chanel, launching at the end of next month – is just the thing for achieving that elusive sunny day glow. First there’s L’Eau Tan (€56), a perfumed light self-tanning mist that’s the antithesis of heavy orange fake tans with a chemical smell. In an elegant glass bottle, this brings a luxe edge to gradual tanning.

The standout make-up item is the Palette Essentielle (€60), containing two highlight shades – one light and bronzey, the other slightly darker with a more golden undertone – plus a bright red blush/lip tint for a natural flush of colour. They’re all cream formulas, so easy to blend and buildable, making it easy to achieve a naturally healthy finish. The highlight shades are versatile: Chanel Global Creative Make-Up and Colour Designer Lucia Pica suggests wearing gold on the eyes “to create a touch of light”, and the bronze all over the face: “It’s an all-over shimmer that radiates light, and it’s so subtle that it really looks like part of the skin.”

The Éclat Énigmatique eyeshadow palette (€53) contains four shades, including a beautiful luminescent pearl – sweep this all over the lid for a subtle shimmer, or on the inner corner to wake up the face. The unique greyish-green shade is brilliant for making brown or green eyes pop. We also love the bronzey-coppery shade swept under the lower lashline – it really complements blue eyes – while the cranberry shade would look amazing on the crease of the eye to give dimension. Whether you’re a one-swipe type or prefer a full glam smoky eye, this palette contains wearable shadows for day or night.

The Jumbo Longwear Lip Crayons (€35) have summer written all over them. There are four shades, but we especially love the bright chalky pink À La Rosée  – zip on a coat of opaque colour or dab on and pat in with your finger for a light tint. The finish is glossy but not tacky and feels moisturising to wear. The retractable waterproof eyeliners are a creamy, blendable formula; our favourite is Charme, a gorgeous maroon colour. Wear on your upper or lower lashline and blend out to give a smoky effect, or tight-line to add drama and dimension. As for nail colours of the season, there’s fresh pink (Halo), a pale khaki green (Légereté) – so cool with denim – and a mauve-nude dusty-rose shade (Chicness). Halo is slightly brighter than your average nude-pink: ideal for someone who loves nude tones and is willing to take a step out of their comfort zone (€25 each).

This fresh and versatile collection focuses on enhancing your features in a light and natural way, playing with textures and sheer layers, and we can’t wait until it lands … At counters nationwide from June 29.
