The Biggest Fashion Trends For Spring 2020

TAILORING

The suiting trend is still triumphant for SS20. Think 1970s sleek jackets over slightly flared-leg trousers and long-collared shirts. Or try a slouchy one-colour rendition (we are loving lilac). The statement blazer is still key to nearly every look.

PRINTS

Florals were abundant for spring but it was the tropical jungle prints, like Valentino’s monkey-print inspired by French painter Henri Rousseau, that rang the changes.

TANGERINE

Add some zing to your look with a block of citrus orange. Peel yourself a slice of this optimistic colour as seen at Prada.

SHOES

There’s something for everyone: Mary Janes, the forever evening shoes; stacked flatforms that cradle your foot with the perfect amount of lift; preppy loafers, versatile and timeless; mules, comfortable out-out summer shoes and slight heels, a comfortable and elegant choice.

Clockwise from top: Chanel, Fendi, Prada, Simone Rocha, Bottega Veneta

BOTTOMS UP

Knee-grazing, generous shorts (and short suits) in grown-up fabrics are the hottest of all trends for SS20. If they’re not your thing, opt for a midi skirt spliced with splits at the front or sides.

SUMPTUOUS TOPS

Crisp, detailed white shirts, second-skin pretty knits and luxe silk blouses with fancy sleeves in a multitude of prints and colours (take your styling cue from the Chloé show and wear accessories layered on top) were the season’s heavy hitters.

L-R: Valentino, Altuzarra, Chloé

THROWING SHADE

From gradient pink to pale peach lenses in a multitude of shapes, this season’s sunglasses are rainbow bright. Eyewear chains (worn as jewellery really) will be all over your Instagram feed too. Spotted at Stella McCartney.

CRAFTINESS

Refined yet in the spirit of DIY, crafty crochet and doily-style lace are getting quite the attention this spring, as seen at Jil Sander (above). This trend will translate well to the high street.

LUXE TRENCH COATS

Tap into the season’s daytime coat trend with a luxe trench, as spotted on the catwalks at Celine (above). Two we love are by Stable of Ireland and brand-of-the-moment, Bottega Veneta.

Camel gabardine and ochre-brown leather trench, Bottega Veneta, €3,900, at Brown Thomas. Olive Mack waterproof trench, €545, at Stable of Ireland.
