Summer Entertaining In Style At Kildare Village

Last night’s FROM THE ISLE dinner at KILDARE VILLAGE celebrated all things Irish …

 

When we received the invitation from Kildare Village to mark the inaugural year of From The Isle, held last night, we knew the evening would be something special. The beautiful emerald green invitation card with die-cut foliage motif was a hint of stylish things to come. KV has had a transformation: we wanted to see the Nikki Tibbles-designed installations of roses climb the entrance walls, the newly greened Enchanted Garden walkways with their arrangements of indigenous Irish planting (ivy, geraniums, ferns) and places to sit and breathe in the scent of a lovely Irish summer evening. We made a mental note to soak up the stylish touches.

In keeping with the celebration of all things made in Ireland, celebrations began at Só Collective, the home of Irish design in the Village. Cocktails (the Sweet Pea gin was both delicious and pretty to look at) by America Village Apothecary and oysters were served before guests were led to long rustic trestle tables, laden with flowers and foliage – an abundance of rosemary, lavender, green hydrangeas in clear and green glass vases, jars and bottles; set exquisitely with linen, glass and candles under a bower of overhanging branches of holly, fern and tonal arrangements of leaves and herbs. Benches were covered in Foxford blankets. Grey linen napkins by 31 Chapel Lane were entwined with rosemary and ivy, and there were quotes by WB Yeats on slates buried amongst the greenery.

Dinner, a masterpiece of Irish produce orchestrated by Lens & Larder, began with sharing platters on simple marble or wooden boards: charred carrots and hummus, tartines with Ballyhoura mushrooms and wild thyme, followed by lobsters and smoked lamb with the most incredible Irish new potatoes, with gooseberry fool and cheese from Sheridan’s to finish the feast.

As a showcase of Irish talent, we can’t wait for the rest of From the Isle to unfold.
