Zuhair Murad showed how to incorporate sequins (one of our favourite details), feathers, and pearls into a bridal outfit without looking tacky, though the overall ensemble is Renaissance in ethos. The takeaway: if you want an historical romance use this show as your moodboard.
Giambattista Valli’s simple, elegant Grecian-inspired column dress was a favourite – and easy to channel. Add a vintage brooch, for something old, while the cape is used instead of a train to update the traditional bridal gown.
Elie Saab, a favourite with Middle Eastern princesses and brides, is a master of elongating the frame as well as using embroidery – a current trend in both bridal and high street fashion. Unless you have a family heirloom, use a tiara sparingly. This channels Old Hollywood glamour; a silvery gown will look gorgeous for evening receptions.
Ralph & Russo’s final bridal exit channelled the Marie Antoinette trend in size and shape, though we preferred this simpler exit. The bar jacket with nipped in waist is chic and timeless, while allowing for inclement weather and a sheath dress underneath.
As for bridesmaids dresses, Etro’s SS18 collection is worth a look. This simple ensemble with a boho vibe is fuss-free while the sparkly bag instead of a bouquet gave us food for thought …
