Shrink To Fit: 6 Iconic Beauty Items That Come In Small Packages

Good news for both your travel bag and your wallet, your FAVOURITE BEAUTY PRODUCTS now come in MINI SIZE

Blumarine SS18

There’s a bit of a trend in beauty right now for the mini-me – smaller versions of favourite products, from make-up to perfume. This is good news for both your travel bag and your wallet – and when do you ever get to the very bottom of a lipstick anyway, or finish a colour palette or bottle of perfume entirely for that matter? Just don’t fall into the supermarket discount mentality of buying three because they’re cheaper than full-size. Here are five beauty smalls that are worth bigging up …

1 Did you know you can now get your hands on MAC Ruby Woo lipstick for €12? MAC has been facing a lot of competition on the make-up front in the past few years, with younger, cheaper brands grabbing the teen audience. So it’s a canny move to make some key items more accessible with the Little Mac range, from cult lipstick shades (here’s your chance to try Russian Red, Twig and Diva) to False Lashes mascara and Strobe Cream – the original liquid highlighter – all at €12.

2 UD have a few smaller palettes to choose from, such as the Naked 2 Basics eye palette, and recent Naked petite Heat (€32). The latest offering, Troublemaker Eyeshadow Palette, is small and neat with rich metallic shades of copper and berry – resolutely un-springlike, which may appeal at this time of year when we’re awash with pastels – plus the added bonus of a (travel-size) Troublemaker mascara. Exclusive to Debenhams and online, €33.

3 I love www.nourish.ie for natural skincare, from Dr Hauschka’s peerless cleaners and day creams to trusty brands like Pai and Weleda. Trilogy’s excellent Rosehip Antioxidant+ oil is available in a mini 15ml size (€18.50), perfect for your plastic bag when travelling.

4 This isn’t necessarily a cheap option, but it’s a fine way of trying out the full range of luxurious Amouage scents: the men’s sample set of 12 mini fragrances (€95, at www.parfumarija.com; there’s also a women’s set, currently sold out). Men’s scents include Myths Man, a smokey, woody oriental, and pine-foresty Memoir Man, with strange notes like absinth with tobacco and leather. Time to experiment.

5 Benefit have a range of their bestsellers in small sizes, from Hoola Bronzer to High Beam highlighter – each at €12, and currently three for €30 at www.boots.ie. Check out minis by Soap & Glory, This Works and Clinique (Lip Pop Mattes for €9) while you’re there.

6 Travel sprays are a good way of trying new perfumes that intrigue you. We firmly recommend Irish Leather by Memo Paris, a stylish and inventive luxury perfume company co-founded by John Molloy, who grew up in the countryside outside Thurles. Irish Leather is astonishingly fresh, leathery, green and bracing, very long-lasting and original – and lovely on both men and women. If you don’t want to commit to a full bottle, it’s €45 for one 10ml spray, or €85 for 3 x 10ml. There are fancy leather travel spray cases to keep them in too. Full-size perfumes are available at Brown Thomas. www.memoparis.com.
