NCAD Student CIARA MASTERSON is the 2018 winner of RIVER ISLAND‘s €3,500 bursary …
This afternoon, River Island announced the winner of its National College of Art and Design Fashion Design Bursary: Dubliner Ciara Masterson.
Masterson will receive a €3,500 bursary and three-month paid internship at River Island’s design studio in London, an invaluable first step into the challenging commercial fashion world.
This year River Island asked final-year NCAD students to create a capsule SS18 collection. “River Island’s NCAD Bursary launched my fashion career twelve years ago, so I am delighted to be among the first to witness some of Ireland’s brightest new design stars as they start on their journey. Our industry thrives on fresh ideas and it’s fantastic to give NCAD graduates the chance to work as an extension of our design team in London,‘’ said judge and fellow Dubliner Lucy Moller, River Island’s current design controller.
Masterson’s winning collection combines fashion and functionality; an oversized check coat and voluminous dress that can be adapted to become more structured with the clever use of in-built drawstring belts.
