There is a small but mighty space at the entrance to the Westbury Mall, which for the Year of Irish Design (see it tagged on Twitter and Instagram as #ID2015) is housing Portfolio @ Solomon Gallery.

An extension of the main gallery on Balfe Street, Portfolio has been showcasing some of the best Irish makers, both new and established, over the last few months, with a variety of disciplines getting a turn in the spotlight.

Ceramics, furniture and textiles have all had their go, and for the last few weeks, the cabinets have glittered with some of the best Irish jewellery.

Sparkling gemstones fashioned and set by Garvan Traynor sit alongside contemporary, clean, but luxurious pieces, from Rachel Swan. Eclectic and haunting pieces from Eily O’Connell face onto iconic jeweller Rudolf Heltzel’s first ever figurative work, an incredible tourmaline butterfly (above).

There is some incredible talent to be discovered and admired – but hurry in: the show closes at the end of this week! It’s a worthy twenty minute diversion from a Grafton Street saunter.

PORTFOLIO @ Solomon: Jewellery runs until October 24Unit 2, Westbury Mall, Balfe Street, Dublin 2.
