Interior Designer Kathtrina Furlong’s Top Trends For 2018

Make way for the SEASON AHEAD with some SIMPLE INTERIOR UPDATES

It’s that time of year when we begin to think about interiors and updating our homes for the new season. Whether you opt for a fresh coat of paint, new soft furnishings and accessories or a complete interior overhaul, spring offers the perfect opportunity to refresh the home. We spoke to interior designer Kathtrina Furlong, who will be at the Ideal Home Show in the RDS this weekend, about her top trends for SS18.

“‘Organic’ is the buzz word for 2018, where we see colour palettes transgress from deep forest colours to delicate pastels. Soft pastel pinks with hints of blue are being used on fabrics from soft linens to rich velvet and will increasingly be seen in the revival of the chintz pattern.” Introduce these fabrics and colours in accent chairs or cushions.

This season, Furlong loves home accessories with tropical prints to bring some fun into the home. Wallpaper is a big trend for this season and it’s a simple way to make a big impact in a room. Large, bold tropical patterns are perfect for creating on-trend accent walls; we love House of Hackney’s designs. “Accent colours are really important in any space. You can bring bright, bold colours into a space through the use of rugs and cushions without committing yourself to just one colour or print.”

Rattan bench, €149, Zara Home

Not only is the feeling of nature re-emerging on soft furnishings but on all surfaces and areas throughout the home as natural materials such as rattan and wicker appear in furniture and home accessories. “Porcelain tiles that have the appearance of wood are flowing right through the home, adding both texture and warmth to the space.”

Kathtrina Furlong will be revealing a remodelled standard family home with a 40sqm extension built and fitted out by Construct Ireland Plus. Visit Yourspersonally.ie to find out more about Kathtrina and her work and don’t forget to visit the Family Home Extension at the permanent tsb Ideal Home Show from April 20 – 22 at the RDS Simmonscourt in Dublin.
