Heads Up: Why Hair Jewellery Is This Seasons’s Favourite Accessory

Jewellery editor NATASHA SHERLING is embracing this spring’s BEST HEADWEAR TREND, and you should too …

Coachella, synonymous with flower crowns, has just passed this weekend – and in doing so has me thinking about how to wear one of this seasons’s key accessories – hair jewellery. It’s less about tiaras and crowns (leave that to Ms Markle in May) but rather gloriously decadent bands and clips – Dolce & Gabbana are the go-to for those who enjoy a Byzantine slant to their style, while those looking for sculptural standouts in neutral tones should look to Irish milliner Laura Kinsella – her nude mesh headpieces used at our recent Wedding Salon as a match to Helen Cody‘s dresses (perfect for a well-dressed guest, not just the bride) were frothy yet dramatic – although she also does an excellent line in more gothic, almost medieval pieces in shades of black.

Alexander Wang made (literal) headlines when it transpired his ‘Wangover’ feather headbands as worn by Bella Hadid et al would have a starting price of roughly €3000 – but I would much rather Gucci’s dramatic gold plated bow headpiece at Net-a-Porter (which also comes in a smaller, hairslide version for those not so brave), or anything from Miu Miu, who are continuing their sweet pearl and crystal headbands for those looking for a youthful spin on the trend.

It’s something to consider as both racing and wedding season nears – we would love to see more guests eschewing the traditional (dare we say, safe) options, and instead putting their most stylish foot forward to embrace this spring’s best headwear trend.
