To mark the centenary of the Easter Rising, a new work by Berlin-based British/Japanese artist Simon Fujiwara will open at IMMA entitled The Humanizer, which is an imagined Hollywood biopic based on the life of Irish nationalist Roger Casement.
Created with collaboration from screenplay writer Michael Lesslie and Oscar-winning Irish designer Annie Atkins (who designed the awe-worthy posters of The Grand Budapest Hotel and worked on Bridge of Spies last year).
The film, which is composed almost completely of sound, is one of three major new works commissioned by IMMA to commemorate the Irish State, the other two being Jaki Irvine and Duncan Campbell, which will be presented later this year.
The Humanizer combines fragments of sound, a minimum of objects, documents and seeks to evoke the experience of a big budget Hollywood blockbuster with modest means.
The Humanizer runs in IMMA from May 20 – August 28.
