WHAT: We’ll be in front of the TV on Saturday morning, May 19, hopefully with some homebaking and a bottomless cup of coffee to watch the coverage across assorted channels. We’ll be taking our cue and inspiration for the former from The Berkeley’s new book Pret-a-Portea, High Fashion Bakes & Biscuits which celebrates the latest catwalk trends. WHO: While it’s more or less a given Ralph & Russo will be designing Ms Markle’s dress, we’re wondering what it will be like, and have been swapping notes in the office about style. I’m going for a full skirt and lots of beading and embroidery. Irish-born, New York based designer Don O’Neill, creative director of Theia has done this drawing and says, “Because Meghan is such a sexy, modern, young lady that’s not particularly part of the royal protocol, I see her in a fitted, sexy — maybe a mermaid — dress, but definitely with a high neck and probably a long sleeve for the occasion, and to be appropriate. I don’t see her in a ball gown. Although, my finale gown is what I’d like to see her in: the gorgeous tapestry with the plunging neckline.”
WHAT: To mark the wedding, Conrad Dublin has created a special “Happily Ever After” cocktail, which will be served in Lemuels during the month of May. Taking inspiration from the Royal wedding plans, elements include Beefeater Pink Gin (which will be served at the wedding and also a nod to the Beefeaters who will be ushers), rhubarb and ginger liqueur, (rhubarb crumble is a favourite pudding with the royal family, and of course Prince Harry is a famous ginger) and topped with Rosé Champagne (apparently a favourite drink of Meghan’s, and she is seen drinking it regularly in Suits). Resting on top is a strawberry infused sugar crown, which is studded with edible silver chocolate jewels. It may be elaborate but it’s delicious.
