First Look: Our Picks From Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty, Which Arrived in Dublin This Morning…

Our beauty editor, SARAH HALLIWELL, is impressed with the LEVEL OF SOPHISTICATION and QUALITY OF FORMULAS in Rihanna’s new beauty collection, read on as she discusses her STAND-OUT PICKS of the collection below …

There’s a buzz around Dundrum this morning as Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty counter arrives in Harvey Nichols, part of an international launch: it’s landing in a whopping 1,600 stores across 17 countries. It’s exclusive to Harvey Nichols in Ireland and the UK, with our own counter being one of the biggest anywhere. It has taken the large space where SpaceNK used to be, so there’s plenty of room to sit and try on the products, get makeovers and generally get stuck in. Fenty (the singer’s surname) has been developed by Kendo, the Californian-based company behind Kat Von D and Marc Jacobs Beauty, and it’s equally attention-grabbing, with a focus on snappy design and intense pigments.

The priority of this first collection is skin – skin that’s emphatically glowing, yet natural-looking and shine-free. No heavy thick contour products here. The liquid foundation (€33) is long-wear with a soft matte finish; if you like Charlotte Tilbury’s, this will definitely suit you.

The Skinsticks encourage mix and matching, and can be used on skin, eyes and lips. There are also some smart brushes, and a quirky little case of blotting papers (€13.50; refills €8.50), based on a cigarette paper holder, which makes a cute gift.

The key shade of the packaging is a muted pale pink, with hexagonal tubes that click together magnetically – so that you could keep the Skinsticks on your fridge, if you desired. They’re fun to play with and tempting to collect. Playfulness aside, the level of sophistication and quality of formulas is really impressive, and I was surprised that there was so much to appeal to the older beauty lover as well as teens and 20s; the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter (€33) for face and eyes, a brilliant gold named Trophy Wife, is irresistibly glamorous, while the lip gloss in a rose nude shade (€17) will suit everyone. Glossy, glam and great fun, this new counter is a place to play. And we look forward to the inevitable future additions – we’re sure the lipsticks are going to be quite something …
