Beauty editor SARAH HALLIWELL rounds up a selection of the BEST NEW BEAUTY RELEASES to try this spring …
GO MATTE … Our inspiration for spring lip colour is Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s – a soft shade that’s in between pink and red. As for texture, we have a weakness for Sisley Matte Lip Twists: we’ve tried millions of lip crayons, and these are some of the best, robust yet non-drying. Try raspberry shade, Ruby, €37, patted on like a natural flush for an almost blurred effect.
LIGHTEN UP … We take notice when Hourglass launch something new – their products perform well and tend to be worth the investment. Our tester for the new Hourglass Vanish Flash Highlighting Stick reports lots of compliments on her glowing skin – it’s not cheap, but it’s a quick and slick way to create an instant glow that’s a long way from those contoured streaks of deathly white sheen. €44, in five shades, at SpaceNK, Grafton Street.
GET YOUR GLOW ON … Remember Illamasqua, the punky, edgy make-up brand founded in 2008? It was available in Ireland, and then disappeared – and now it’s back; find it at Sculpt Cosmetics in Letterkenny and online. We rate Illamasqua Beyond Veil Skin Glowing Gel (€39.99) – it adds a sheer glow to skin that’s very helpful if you’re feeling washed out. The kind of instant brightener that inspires waiting lists. www.sculptcosmetics.com.
TAKE COVER … Our 70-year-old tester has searched endlessly for something that actually works on dark spots, without going down the laser route. Various serums have helped a bit, but her revelation has been Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear, the long-wear foundation launched last year – she swears by it for covering areas of pigmentation in a lasting but imperceptible way. €39.
PUT YOUR HEAD IN THE CLOUDS … We’re trying out various creams and serums to rehydrate winter skin over night – the best time to repair your skin – and rather like this Cloudmasque by Patchology, a US brand just landed in SpaceNK. It’s super-light but with retinol, peptides and hyaluronic acid to pack in the repair and moisture. €35.
For a bargain option, Soap & Glory Miracle Moisture Mask is a brilliant fast pick-me-up. It’s a hydragel mask, so feels weird, like layering wet pasta on your face, but stick one on while you’re in the bath and emerge with a glowing face for less than a fiver.
