5 Perfumes Guaranteed To Delight On Mother’s Day

Here are five brilliant perfumes for Mother’s Day, to suit all seasons, budgets and tastes, from ETERNAL CLASSIC to MODERN SHOWSTOPPER. Splash out …

Swearing in front of your mum? When it’s Tom Ford, we think we can make an exception. Ford’s runaway bestselling scent, Fucking Fabulous, is back (with a bang) this month, exclusively at Brown Thomas. It certainly expresses admiration for your mum, and smells incredible. But if the words, or the price (€245), are too much, any Tom will go down well: Black Orchid (€70); Noir de Noir Body Spray (€52) or Neroli Portofino Shower Gel (€50) are equally fabulous alternatives.

The latest Chloé incarnation is the markedly feminine Nomade, a floral chypre with fruit notes of warm plum. It’s a people-pleaser that avoids being too sweet with greener mossy and labdanum notes. With its pink suede edging, the bottle makes an elegant addition to a dressing table. From €54.50.

If you can’t treat her to Chanel on Mother’s Day, when can you? One click-up Rouge Allure red lipstick would make us happy, frankly, but if budget allows, Chanel No 5 is an eternal favourite, of course. If your mum has always worn No 5, change it up a little (but not too much) with the lighter L’Eau version, or our favourite, Eau Premiere – the essence of No 5 but with a slightly less rich spin for daytime.

It’s hard to pick just one floral for spring, but if we could only have one it would be The Actress from scent expert Michael Donovan’s new luxury fragrance collection, St Giles. “I wanted a power floral as most of the women I know will not wear girly,” Donovan tells us, “and this is not girly at all – it says ‘I’m here – worship me’!” All five St Giles scents tick lots of boxes: they are unique and intriguing, concocted together with a master perfumer (Bertrand Duchaufour) and no one else will be wearing them – you can only buy them online from Ireland. With Calabrian lemon, bergamot and lavish oriental lily, The Actress eau de parfum is glamorous in the extreme. £130stg.

A limited edition Jo Malone London cologne is surely a failsafe scent gift. Think sunshine, cornflowers and a spring breeze with these gently eccentric combinations: choose from five English Fields scents, from Honey & Crocus to Primrose & Rye and Green Wheat & Meadowsweet. The wheat and fresh grapefruit notes of the latter is a particular winner. €57 each, at Brown Thomas and Arnotts.
