5 Glossy Things To Do This Weekend

We’re planning a trip to Dingle for OTHER VOICES, visiting Dublin’s newest POP-UP SHOP on Fade Street and making a start on our FESTIVE DECORATIONS

WHY: We’ll be heading to 13 Fade Street, Dublin 2 this weekend. For the month of December, Hen’s Teeth is collaborating with lifestyle brand Seven Wood for a pop-up selling an interesting collection of prints, furniture, books and gifts across two floors. We’ve had a sneak preview and particularly like the Irish designers profiled in addition to the lovely stationery items.

WHAT: Taking a trip to Dingle Co Kerry? Then the eir Other Voices Festival is worth a visit, which takes place from December 1 to 3. Main Street, Dingle, is the main hub for the event with art exhibitions, DJ sets and over 40 live music events, which will be filmed in St James’ Church and other venues. One of the best ways to enjoy the festival is on the musical mystery bus – Music Trail West –  which goes along the Dingle peninsula stopping off for secret gigs and a spot of lunch along the way. www.othervoices.ie.

WHERE: The inaugural Northern Xposure weekend festival takes place in Culdaff, Inishowen, Co Donegal from Friday to Sunday. Featuring panel discussions, talks and gigs by artists, innovators and industry leaders, the event examines “the creative connections between art and technology.” Hosted in the legendary Back Room at McGrory’s of Culdaff, the venue showcases Donegal’s renowned hospitality, locally-sourced cuisine and indigenous brews. www.northernxposure.ie.

WHO: For those wanting to get ahead with their festive decorations two venues might prove inspirational. Firstly, The Garden House in Malahide has opened its Christmas Shop and is selling their home-grown Nordmann Christmas trees, in addition to presenting two decor themes; the nostalgic “Remember When” and “Loved by Nature” – inspired by shades of green. www.thegardenhouse.ie.

Joeanna Caffrey will demonstrate how to create the perfect festive designs at a masterclass in Avoca, Dunboyne on December 5.  The class will run from 9:45am – 11:15am. Tickets cost €15. To book visit www.avoca.com.

HOW: It may have been Black Friday last week but if you’re staying in and perusing the online offers, may we suggest December’s GLOSSYBOX. Designed by Irish company Dusty Boy, this collector’s edition box contains five products and an extra edible treat. It costs 14€ (+P&P) at www.glossybox.ie  and is available from December 1 until stocks last.

AND: For something more mindful, The Guinness Choir will perform its annual Christmas Concert in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin on Sunday, December 3, starting at 7pm. The concert will feature Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, with special guest songwriter, singer and composer, Eleanor McEvoy. For tickets visit www.eventbrite.ie or phone 086 881 8044.
