These five eye colour palettes for the NEW SEASON will inspire some COLOUR CONFIDENCE …
On the AW18 catwalks we saw some great hits of colours on the eyes, from graphic streaks of saturated, bright liner at Dior and Ferragamo to more subtle washes of colour across the lid at Marni. And there are plenty of new eye colour palettes around for the new season to inspire some colour confidence. But eye palettes can be a real beauty red herring. They’re so pretty to look at, but are rarely the hardest-working item in your make-up bag: you might find one or two shades you love, but the rest are redundant. So we’re picky about the ones we actually invest in – last year’s Victoria Beckham x Estée Lauder compact, with its soft matte shades including a really unusual dove-grey, is still a favourite (it’s wonderfully glamorous), and Charlotte Tilbury’s are always eminently usable, with a great balance of matte and perfectly glittering metallic textures.
Here are the five that are standing out so far this season, from under €20:
1 Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Luxury Palette. Love these shades, from dusty rose to a wet-look pink-gold – and there’s blusher and lipstick to match if you want to go the full Pillow Talk package. €50, at www.charlottetilbury.com.
2 bareMinerals Gen Nude Eyeshadow Palette in Rose. Six shades in matte, satin and metallic finishes to create a variety of different looks. €33, at selected counters nationwide; www.bareminerals.co.uk.
3 L’Oreal Paris Cherry My Cheri Eyeshadow Palette. Warm shades or peach to coral plus enough neutrals to make this good value for €19.95. At selected pharmacies nationwide.
4 Chanel Les 4 Ombres in Quiet Revolution. This matte palette is well-named: richly pigmented shades, including a stunning inky midnight blue, have a really beautiful texture and are just a bit different from the rest. I love the watercolour effect you can create with a wash of the soft pearl beige or grey-blue. €53, from counters nationwide.
5 I’m really excited about the new Shiseido make-up range that’s launching on September 25 – it’s been entirely redesigned and reformulated, and it’s looking pretty innovative and of pro quality. The eye palettes feature weightless but long-lasting colours and I like this combination especially. £38; euro price tbc. At Arnotts and counters nationwide from September 25.
