Forget brows, or contouring – this season is all about the lips. At every show from Roksanda to Edun and Rodarte, rich dark lip colour ruled, and happily this mood has filtered down to the beauty counters. We’ve never seen so many brilliant new lip products launching in one go: as bona fide lipstick obsessives, it’s like nirvana. From the most pigmented mattes ever to hit the market, to the glossiest glosses that fade beautifully to a lasting stain, we’ve rounded up the most brilliant ones:
1. Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet
Described as “second-skin intense matte colour”, these are are like dyes for your lips. They have the richness of Lip Maestros while being super-light and comfortable to wear – they’re not remotely drying, even they have a super-matte finish.
Colour lasts for ages and gradually fades to a stain, so that your lips are never bare, thus solving an eternal matte lipstick frustration. There are 18 shades. Exclusive to Brown Thomas from September 28, €29.
2. Nars Velvet Lip Glide
We can’t get over how gorgeous these are, and feel that you’d have to search long and hard to beat the shades and texture on offer. The colours are stunning (aubergine Toy is our favourite, but the nudes are great, too).
They feel like suede on the lips, and manage to stay on amazingly long, with a beautiful sheen, without being either drying or sticky. Not gloss, not matte, but a whole new world of oil-infused lip brilliance. In 13 shades. From October 1, €26.
3. YSL Vernis A Levres Vinyl Cream
YSL’s Lloyd Simmonds tells us these are “three times more intense in terms of both pigment and gloss” than regular lip colour, and we believe it: we’ve always liked the sheeny Vernis A Levres colours, but Vinyl takes it to a whole new level, with far punchier colour that lasts all day – it doesn’t just disappear, like some glossy colours, but becomes a lip stain that means you keep colour all day.
It has to be no.409 Burgundy Vibes for autumn – start with the glossiest berry shine and finish with a wind-blown autumnal flush that’s wonderfully flattering. In 12 shades. From mid-September, €33.
