Ganni’s Creative Director Shares Her Favourite Spots In Copenhagen

With an off-beat aesthetic, DANISH LABEL GANNI is designed by its creative director, DITTE REFFSTRUP. The cool, relaxed city of COPENHAGEN is the starting point for many of her designs …

I AM INSPIRED BY The girls of Copenhagen. They have something effortless about them, which I always look to when designing. Their sense of style derives from their way of living – they want to be able to bike around town all day, but also go dancing with their friends at night without having to change their clothes. No restrictions, just comfort and coolness. PEOPLE ARE SURPRISED … To hear that I met my husband, Nicolaj, at a party. We both love to dance so that was a promising start. We went to the movies the day after, and became a couple. Seven months later, we got married. We didn’t tell anyone. To be honest, I did check out the price of a divorce before we tied the knot, just in case. It was cheap, you could apply online, so I figured, why not! [The couple set up Ganni in 2009; Nicolaj is CEO].

SIGNATURE COFFEE … I go to Atelier September (Gothersgade 30) for my morning cortado, equal parts espresso and hot milk. DAILY UNIFORM My everyday look is constantly changing, yet I generally love comfortable, easy-to-wear pieces that work for all aspects of my day. FAVOURITE RESTAURANT … Copenhagen has a very strong dining scene and I find new favourites all the time. My all-time favourite is the restaurant Hos Fischer (Victor Borges Plads 12) at Østerbro, close to our house, which serves laidback and delicious Italian food. I’m also into Admiralgade 26 (its name is also its address) in the centre of the city, it’s both pleasing aesthetically and serves great food and wine. Restaurant Palægade (Palægade 8) is perfect for Danish classics.

RETAIL THERAPY … I go to Holly Golightly (Gammel Mønt 2) for fashion and The Apartment (Overgaden Neden Vandet 33) for interior design. Also, the florist Tage Andersen (Ny Adelgade 12) has a stunning and magical flower shop in the centre of the city, which is truly inspiring. MUST-VISITS … The David Collection museum in the centre of the city is one of my favourites, and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, located north of Copenhagen is a must-see. Generally, I highly recommend renting or borrowing a bike if you ever visit Copenhagen; it’s the best way to get around town and see all the different neighbourhoods.

STYLE IS … a gut feeling and a strong personality. MY KEY PIECE … Of course, Ganni is known for its dresses. A dress is very versatile. You can pair it with sneakers and a chunky knit for a laidback look or with heels if you want to dress up. It can look both cool and feminine, while being extremely easy and comfortable to wear. THIS SUMMER’S COLLECTION … was inspired by Los Angeles and Palm Springs. We called the collection “Space Cowboy”, which popped into my mind during a two-hour drive. The desert landscapes of Palm Springs are such a strong contrast to the pulsing futuristic city of LA. I got this idea of an urban cowboy – a kind of wild youth escaping the city to the desert. I couldn’t get the image of out my mind, and we developed the collection from there.
